Notes
Before embarking on your trip to Kenya, please note:-
- Although there are no strict dress codes, you should note that the coastal areas are predominantly Muslim in tradition. Dress conservatively away from the tourist resorts and hotels.
- Smoking in all public places (except in designated areas) is prohibited throughout Kenya.
- The use and trafficking of illegal Class A drugs in Kenya carries heavy fines and jail sentences. The penalty for possession is ten (10) years imprisonment.
- Permission to carry any kind of firearm must be obtained from the local authorities prior to entry.
- ATMs are widely available in Nairobi and the main towns. Credit cards and travellers’ cheques are widely accepted.
- Local time is three (3) hours ahead of (GMT)
- Malaria is prevalent in Coastal & low lying areas (below 1800m above sea level). Please seek medical advice prior to travel.
- Upon your return from Kenya, most countries will require a Yellow Fever Health Certificate. Seek more details from your medical practitioner prior to your travel.
- There are several FOREX Bureaus in Nairobi as well as major banking institutions. It is advisable to convert your foreign currencies to local currency (Kenya Shilling) for ease of transactions.
- South African Passport Holders do not require visa into Kenya for period less than one month (30 days).
- Passport Holders of the following countries ALSO DO NOT REQUIRE visa into Kenya:
Botswana, Brunei, Burundi, Cyprus, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Jamaica, Lesotho,
Malawi, Maldives, Mauritius,
Namibia,
Rwanda,
Samozo, San Marino, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Swaziland,
Tanzania, Tobago, Tonga, Trinidad, Turkey,
Uganda, Uruguay,
Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Passport holders of the following countries AND ALL stateless persons i.e.
persons holding travel documents issued by either the Department of Home
Affairs of the Republic of South Africa or the United Nations require Referral
visas:
Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cameroon, Eritrea, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, North Korea, Senegal, Somalia, Syria and Tajikistan
Referral visas are processed from Nairobi and it takes
approximately 6 weeks.
Nationals of countries NOT listed in either of the two categories require a single entry visa
which takes 24hrs to process at our Mission for R500 (or can be obtained on arrival at the point of entry at
a cost of US $50 (fifty US Dollars only).
Referral Visa Requirements i.e. Single Entry or Multiple Entry.
- Two sets of duly filled and signed V1 visa forms (download)
- Two photographs
- Two sets of photocopies of passport
- Employers letter or Letter of invitation to Kenya
- Initial Fee R150
- When approved you pay R500.00 for SINGLE ENTRY or
- R1,000 for MULTIPLE ENTRY.
• Waiting period 4-6 weeks

- Postal Order (to the Kenya High Commission). Postal orders can be obtained
from any Post Office
Business Visa Requirements.
- Duly filled v1 visa form (download)
- Original passport
- Two photographs
- Letter of invitation
- Employers letter
- Return ticket/onward ticket
- Fee R500.00 or US$50.00 at the Kenyan port of entry
• Waiting period- One day

Transit Visa (these prices are only applicable while you are in Kenya)
How much does a transit visa cost ?
- The transit visa fee shall be US $ 50.
- The visa referral visa fee shall be US $ 10 non-refundable.
- The current standard visa fee for an ordinary or a Single Journey entry visa shall be US $ 50.
- The standard fee for multiple journey visas shall be US $ 110 for all nationalities.
