The Kenyan delegation headed by the Minister for Science and Technology, Hon. Dr. Noah Wekesa attended a Bureau meeting of the African Ministers Council on Science and Technology (AMCOST) held in Pretoria, South Africa from 4th - 8th June 2007. Other members of the delegation were Prof. Crispus Kiamba, Permanent Secretary, Min. of Science and Technology; Prof. George King'oriah, Secretary, National Council for Science & Technology (NCST); Dr. Geoffrey Mokabi, Director of Research Development; Dr. Rispah Oduwo, NCST; Mr. Spencer Muthoka, Department of Research Development (DRD); Dr. John Onyatta, National Council for Science & Technology (NCST) and Dr. Simon Langat, Department of Research Development (DRD).

AMCOST was established in November 2003, under the auspices of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) and the African Union (AU). It is a platform for developing policies and setting priorities on Science and Technology and Innovation for African development. Kenya will host the AMCOST meeting from 12th - 16th November 2007 during which occassion she will take over as chair for a period of two years.

The Minister also held bilateral talks with his South African counterpart Hon. Mosibudi Mangena, Minister of Science and Technology during which they agreed to activate the existing Agreement on Science and Technology between Kenya and South Africa. It was noted that while various Institutions from the two countries are already interacting, there is need to identify specific projects the two countries can collaborate.
