Science and Technology Minister, Hon. (Dr.) Noah Wekesa paid a courtesy call to the High Commissioner while attending a Regional Workshop on ‘Animals Traction and Usage’ in Pretoria . This event was organized by Animal Traction Network for Eastern and Southern Africa (ATNESA) in collaboration with South African Network for Animal Traction (SANAT). He was received by the Agricultural Attaché Mr. A. Ombachi . The Minister delivered a key note address at the workshop where ten African countries, namely , Tanzania , Uganda ,Ethiopia, Zimbabwe , Namibia , Lesotho , Zambia , Malawi, South Africa and Kenya were represented. Consultants from the UK also attended.
Hon. (Dr.) Wekesa challenged the animal welfare groups in Africa to support their Governments in developing laws governing animal welfare. He noted that emerging technological advancement should incorporate animal traction development.
The Minister said that despite the emerging technological advancement in Africa , animal traction has not been given the attention it deserves. He also noted that faster rural development can be achieved if animal traction and welfare were enhanced in the rural areas.
