His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta will visit South Africa on 11 January 2018, the first foreign trip since he was sworn in as President for his second and final term last November.
President Kenyatta will hold talks with his host, South African President Jacob Zuma, in the Indian Ocean city of Durban, centred on bilateral and pan-African issues.
Kenya and South Africa enjoy warm relations. The leaders will be looking to deepen bilateral cooperation, and especially in the areas of trade, security, and infrastructure development.
Kenya and South Africa are also key players in peace building on the African continent, and the leaders will review progress in countries such as Somalia and South Sudan.

Amb. Lemarron Kaanto, Deputy High Commissioner, represented the High Commission at the Tshwane North Cluster South Africa Police Service (SAPS) Heritage Day Celebrations held on 15th September 2017 at Bundu Inn Resort, North of Pretoria. The theme of the celebrations was the Maasai culture from Kenya and their way of life, in addition to other South African cultures which presented their traditional dresses and dances cultures.
H.E. Ambassador Jean Njeri Kamau, High Commissioner of Kenya to the Republic of South Africa, the Kingdom of Lesotho and the Kingdom of Swaziland presented her Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Letsie III, of the Lesotho on 10th August 2017.
Rollout of e-Passport
This is to notify the General Public that the Department of Immigration will start issuing the e-Passport with effect from 1st September 2017. Holders of valid current passports will be allowed to use them for the next 2 years i.e to 31st August 2019 after which they will be rendered invalid. Please note that the department will no longer be issuing the current Ordinary, Diplomatic and East African passports.

On 25th March 2017 representatives of Kenyan Academic Diaspora Community from University of Pretoria, University of the Witwatersrand, University of Johannesburg, University of South Africa, Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and the Kenya High Commission jointly organized the Education, Science, Technology and Innovation 2017 Gauteng Symposium / Education Day" at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). The event created a unique platform for over 70 Kenya Academic Diaspora Communities (undergraduates, postgraduate and senior academicians) residing within Gauteng Province to present their research and experience foci. In addition the event;
- Created awareness of the existing education sector bilateral cooperation programs
- Expanded the ongoing comprehensive skills data base development;
- Profiled and networked the academicians;
- Stimulated the vibrant debate on education sector;
- Created a key networking platform for education sector actors and stakeholders;
- Established intra and inter connectivity of the education sector actors and stakeholders.
The First Lady Margaret Kenyatta received top Honorary Award from the highly reputed Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in Cape Town (South Africa) on 22nd March 2017.
The First Lady received the prestigious Fellowship of Honoris Causa Award from the globally respected Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG). The honorary accolade was in recognition of the First Lady’s unflinching commitment to end maternal and child mortality in Kenya besides her efforts to reduce mother-to-child HIV transmission under the highly innovative Beyond Zero initiative. The Honorary Fellowships are the highest Awards by the RCOG and are given following a rigorous exercise of screening and vetting by the Council.
The High Commissioner, Ambassador Jean Kamau and Dr. Gatama Gichini – Education Attaché accompanied Professor Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o the distinguished Professor of the Departments of Comparative Literature and English at the University of California, Irvine, on Thursday 2nd March, 2017 evening at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg where he delivered a public lecture entitled 'Secure the Base, Decolonise the Mind.'

The Kenya High Commission in Pretoria is in the process of developing a comprehensive database for all Kenyan Students and members of staff in Universities, technical colleges and research institutes in the Republics of South Africa.
The purpose of the targeted database is for networking the Kenyan academic Diaspora community with Kenyan institutions and other ongoing programmes in the education science and technology sector.
